Beshear asks the Supreme Court to hear the case

On Monday, December 8, 2014, the Governor of Kentucky joined the same-sex couples in Love v Beshear and Bourke v Beshear in asking the United States Supreme Court to hear these cases and make a final determination for Kentucky.

As of today, the couples have asked that same-sex marriages from outside of Kentucky be recognized in Kentucky and that same-sex marriage be allowed in Kentucky. Previously, Judge Heyburn had ruled that same-sex marriages were to be treated the same as opposite-sex marriages, but the 6th Circuit overruled those decisions. The attorneys, Shannon Fauver, Joe Dunman, Dan Canon, Dawn Elliott and Laura Landenwich have filed a petition asking the Supreme Court to make a decision which will most likely answer the question of same-sex marriage not only for Kentucky but for the rest of the country.
